Birds:  Terns, Plovers, Gulls, Shorebirds, Ducks & More

Barnstable Harbor is a bird watcher’s paradise.  Whether you live on the shores of the harbor or are just stopping by Millway Beach to check on the tide, no matter the season, ducks, seabirds and shorebirds are the most visible members of the harbor’s natural ecosystem.

Sandy Neck is the southernmost breeding ground for Arctic Terns.  Like the Piping Plover, their survival is predicated on our respect.  Enjoy the birds and keep a safe distance.  When visiting local beaches, ensure that your pets do not disturb any nests.

Our marshes are home to many species of birds.  Visit Saltmarsh Habitat & Avian Research Program’s website to learn more about marsh-specific birds .
