One of the “extras” that comes with our Habitat Study is “citizen science”. Owen Nichols, Center for Coastal Studies Marine Fisheries Research Director, is currently conducting Part II of our habitat survey with a Finfish/Shellfish Study.

Past FBH president Jon Brink worked with Owen to engage local students in this study. Last week, Cape Cod Times photographer Steve Heaslip captured images of students working with Owen at Mill Way Beach.

The students were Advanced Marine Biology students from Barnstable High School. Dressed in full waders,the students deployed nets that captured small minnows and other critters.
